Des Moines, IA – January 22, 2026 – In a heartwarming display of camaraderie and mentorship, seasoned drivers Chris S, Bryan Godwin, Jason Euchner, Jake Tuel, and Gurry Burr from Omaha turned what could have been a standard club race into an invaluable test and tune night at Wolfram RC Raceway in Des Moines on January 22. With around a dozen enthusiastic new drivers showing up eager to dive into the Box Stock Mini-Z class, the veterans made the selfless call to forgo the competitive heats. Instead, they dedicated the evening to guiding the newcomers through setup tweaks, track tips, and hands-on practice sessions, fostering the next generation of racers in the Iowa Mini-Z community.
The night buzzed with energy as the pros shared their expertise on everything from battery management to cornering techniques, helping the rookies log their first laps with confidence. While no official races were run, the informal tune-up saw impressive progress, with several new drivers clocking consistent times under 8 seconds by session’s end. Jake Tuel, one of the mentors, noted the group’s total laps exceeded 500 across various practice runs, highlighting the productive vibe. This impromptu coaching clinic not only boosted skills but also strengthened bonds, proving that in Mini-Z racing, growth and fun often trump the podium. Stay tuned for the upcoming winter points races this weekend, with action kicking off Saturday at Wolfram RC Raceway and continuing Sunday at Omaha Hobby Plex!
