Mini-Z Racers Bring Big Energy to Crash N Bash On-Road Winter #12
April 4, 2026 – Cedar Rapids, IA – The carpet track at Crash N Bash Hobbies Raceway was alive with action during On-Road Winter #12, as 24 drivers and 41 total entries racked up an impressive 2,825 race laps. The day’s program was anchored by a full lineup of competitive 1/10-scale classes that delivered high-speed precision and exciting door-to-door battles from start to finish.
Strong 1/10-Scale Action Sets the Tone
The core of the event featured the 21.5 Stock Touring and 25.5 Stock Touring classes, where spec-style setups tested drivers’ skill, line choice, and consistency. Losi NASCAR Box Stock brought plenty of nostalgic stock-car energy with side-by-side racing reminiscent of full-size ovals. Rounding out the diverse program were the always-entertaining Tubs-O-Fun, G.T. 12, and V.T.A. classes, giving racers a wide range of car styles and rule sets to enjoy. These 1/10-scale mains kept the energy high all day with clean, hard-fought competition that showcased the depth of the local on-road scene.
Mini-Z Classes Add Lightning-Fast Fun
Adding a special layer of pint-sized excitement were the three dedicated Mini-Z classes—Stock, Novice, and Open—where the nimble 1/28-scale cars turned in lightning-quick laps and plenty of smiles.
In the Stock Mini-Z A-Main (6:00 timed), Chris Simmons charged from second on the grid to claim victory with 31 laps in 6:09.078, edging out pole-sitter Mathew Rodgers by a razor-thin 1.566 seconds. Jake Tuel rounded out the podium in third. The field stayed clean and consistent, highlighting the pure fun of spec-class racing.
The Open Mini-Z class cranked up the speed with modifications allowed. Jake Tuel dominated from pole position, posting a commanding 34 laps to take the win. Nick Williams and Aaron Coe waged a tight battle for the remaining podium spots—both completing 33 laps with lap times dipping into the low-10-second range.
The Novice Mini-Z class kept the welcoming vibe strong, giving newer drivers a chance to build confidence. Tuesday Simmons cruised to a dominant victory with 22 laps while the rest of the small field soaked up valuable track time and experience.
All three Mini-Z mains ran clean and close, proving once again why these tiny cars are such a hit at Crash N Bash events.
From seasoned 1/10-scale competitors chasing every tenth of a second to first-time Mini-Z drivers learning the ropes, On-Road Winter #12 was a perfect mix of serious competition and pure RC joy. The indoor winter series continues to be the go-to spot for great racing, friendly rivalries, and community vibes during the colder months.
